“The Defence Forces, they helped me to win the Olympic Gold Medal”
Through our new campaign, the Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel is highlighting our talented, highly skilled and diverse group of veterans, showcasing members who are making a difference in our communities and across Irish and international society.
Our third veteran’s story features Olympic Champion and veteran, Michael Carruth. Michael, who won Olympic gold in Barcelona in 1992, brought the nation to its feet, winning Ireland’s first Olympic gold medal since 1956.
Michael has always led from the front and continues to embody the values of the Irish Defence Forces #PhysicalCourage #MoralCourage #Respect #Integrity #Loyalty. His gold medal win at the 1992 Olympics Games in Barcelona stands as one of the country’s greatest feats on the international sporting stage.
As a nation we are still so proud of all Michael has achieved, and we too in ONE are even prouder to count him as a valuable member of our veterans community.
