Kevin Quinn Perpetual Soccer Trophy

Today The Kevin Quinn Foundation vs the Defence Forces Soccer Team took place in John Hyland Park, Baldonnel, home of St Francis F.C.

The event was a great open and entering football match, played in great spirit with a minute’s silence and pipers lament played by Coy Sgt Kevin Duncan, DFSM at the start.

The teams were equal in the first half with the scores at 1-1 at halftime, on what was a very humid day in Dublin. The second was a quicker-paced game with both sides going for it. The rolling subs and most players not that familiar with each other on the Kevin Quinn XI gave an advantage to the Defence Forces team whose season was closing with this game.

Kevin’s sons managed the Kevin Quinn XI and Comdt Richie Barbour the Defence Forces Team along with their coaches gave great instructions from the sidelines and kept the momentum going, with Comdt Barbour subbing on for the last few minutes. With the Defence Forces awarded a penalty midway through the second half, which was put away, they then went on to score two goals from open play and finish the game 4-1.

Kevin’s son Eric gave a momentous thanks to the teams, supporters and spectators and said it was a great way to remember their father.

Kevin’s wife Sandra presented the Defence Forces team captain David Long with the Kevin Quinn Perpetual trophy, with Eric saying the family would love to make this match an annual event.

This great fundraising event has raised €12,000 to share between the two chosen charities: Tallaght Cancer Support Group and ONE. Thank you, your donations will go to both of these great causes by way of one of Kevin’s great passions in life – football.
