ONE membership and volunteering with ONE brings a variety of remembrance, social and community activities to attend throughout the year, supporting not only veterans but other charities as well. Here is a sample of events from this weekend:
On Friday 19th and Saturday 20th July, members of the ONE’s St Conleths Branch (Newbridge) were fundraising in Whitewater Shopping Centre Newbridge, where they were met and supported by Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer, who is the Kildare Newbridge Municipal District Mayor. ONE member Sarah Walshe is also pictured.
On Saturday 21st July, Members of the ONE’s Patrick Sarsfield Branch (Limerick) presented a cheque to Down Syndrome Limerick in the Privates’ Mess in Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick. Every year a group of Defence Forces Veterans come together to raise money for different charities, this year Down Syndrome Limerick asked ONE to help support their fundraiser. The branch brought their gazebo and helped with the event. €3,420 was raised, well done to all involved, fantastic work.
On Saturday 20th July, Defence Forces Veterans and serving personnel were in Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo for the unveiling of the memorial to Pte Billy Kedian, who lost his life in South Lebanon on 31st May 1999. In a fitting ceremony to honour the bravery of this young soldier who died so tragically while endeavouring, under fire, to protect others on his 25th Anniversary.
On Sunday 21st July, Veteran and ONE board member Tracy Connollys stopped on her way to Páirc Uí Chaoimh to say hello to ONE member Anthony Ryan who was out fundraising (as always), at the Veteran Support Centre (VSC) in Cork City.
Membership of all ONE’s Branches is open, see how to join here:
ONE’s primary objective is to support the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless and other veterans in need of such domestic accommodation in its Veterans’ Homes and the provision of other advice and support to veterans, in particular Mental Health advice, through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans’ Support Centres.
