ONE’s updated Position Paper on Veterans Policy

For your awareness, please find ONE’s updated Position Paper on Veterans Policy – here.

ONE receives assistance from many quarters in support of veterans of the Defence Forces. This has enabled the organisation to:

  1. Open and sustain its current four homes
  2. Develop fifteen veterans support centres and thirty – three branches nationwide
  3. Plan the delivery of additional homes
  4. Put in place a range of supports for veterans, with specific focus on mental health support.

The sustainability of the aforementioned must be ensured and ONE believes that the facts we have created on the ground should be enshrined in a Government Veterans’ Policy thereby ensuring continued support for veterans in need. This support will be strengthened by research into areas affecting veterans and fortified by having a cross governmental agency tasked with co-ordinating the delivery of Veterans’ Policy – The Office of Veteran Affairs.

ONE recommends that the next Programme for Government includes:

  • A commitment to develop a comprehensive Veterans’ Policy.
  • A reaffirmation of the commitment to establish an Office of Veterans Affairs.

Kind Regards,

Cormac Kirwan

Chief Executive Officer

Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann/Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (ONE)
