On Wednesday 10th July 2024, Minister of State with responsibility for EU Affairs & Defence Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD visited ONE’s flagship home Brú na bhFiann (Home of the Brave), located in Smithfield, Dublin which can house up to 35 homeless veterans.
The minister met with ONE’s CEO Cormac Kirwan, Board Chairperson Colm Campbell, ONE’s Gender Advisor and Veteran Support Officer (VSO) Audra Larkin, along with House Managers Richard Dillion & Sinéad Black. After the visit and tour of the facilities, a lengthy discussion took place which was focused on the objectives of ONE. It included discussions on ONE’s homes for Veterans, Strategic Plan, Research and Policy, Finance and Diversity and Inclusion.
ONE’s primary objective is to support the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless and other veterans in need of such domestic accommodation in its Veterans’ Homes and the provision of other advice and support to veterans, in particular Mental Health advice, through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans’ Support Centres.
