Pictured at the unveiling of the new Memorial Stone for Pte Patrick Kelly for the 40th Anniversary of the tragic event of his death in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim on Friday 8th December.
Along with Pte Kelly’s sons is Pat Masterson, who laid a wreath at the memorial stone on behalf of the Peter Keenan Branch of ONE.
Pte Patrick Kelly (36) was killed along with recruit Garda Gary Sheehan (23) when a Provisional IRA gang opened fire on them after they came across a hideout in a Co Leitrim wood where Don Tidey had been kept for 23 days on December 16th, 1983.
The memorial stone is in Ballinamuck, Co Longford where Pte Kelly grew up. The unveiling, with full military honours, was carried out at the Ballinamuck Garden of Remembrance by Minister of State Jack Chambers on behalf of the Government.
